We approach our work with intention

Ever since we first met in 2015, we knew we wanted to start a business together. We were drawn to the opportunity to make a difference in our community by buying fruit and grains from local farmers, preserving food that might otherwise go to waste, providing good jobs and pay to people in our community, as well as feeding our community food that’s made with integrity and love.

We hope to have our own fruit and berry farm someday.

A note on Alchemist’s Jam’s AI Policy:

Alchemist’s Jam does not use AI assistive, generative or agentic technologies in any of our work.

All of our thought, writing (including emails and our website), all of our artwork, and all of our personal research and other endeavors are formed by us in the human realm using our human bodies and minds. The one exception is that will occasionally use the google AI overview when using google to look things up online.

We aim to connect with other humans who hold similar values when we choose which goods to sell in our shop.

We aim to be extremely limited in our use social media. However, we do occasionally use Instagram to announce happenings to our local community.

Our ultimate goal is for the jam shop to remain a space that is committed to authenticity and real connection within our community, and therefore we have a strong commitment to resistance of the use of AI technologies in all of our work now and in the foreseeable future.

Alchemist Origins

We enjoy the process of combining healing herbs with berries and fruit to make jam in much the same way that an alchemist works.

Alchemy is, in its essence, a spiritual practice involving the self-transformation of the practitioner as they transmute a common substance into something of great value.

Small Batch

We make our jams in small batches and do all of our processing of the fruit and ingredients by hand and cook down the berries in large copper pots over the stove, and hand-pour into jars.

Organic & Local

We use organic ingredients whenever possible. The cane sugar and lemons used in our jams is organic. Our bakery grains are 100% local and organic. Our fruit is locally sourced from farmers throughout Oregon. The coffee beans used on all of our coffee items are roasted for us by Portland small roaster, Bastion Coffee Co.

Mindful

Sustainability and care of the environment are extremely important to us. We work hard to eliminate waste in our shop, using cloth towels in our kitchen as well as reusable trash can liners. All of our food waste is composted, and we recycle everything that is recyclable.
